Udaipur :Office bearers of the students cabinet of government Meera Girls college and supporters raised slogans against the college management and demonstrated outside the college premises here on Thursday. The students were angry because the Principal had locked the union room and taken away the key. The agitators gathered outside the main gate and continued protest until the principal gave back the keys.
The tiff between the students and management had arouse a week ago at the swearing-in ceremony of the office bearers on December 9. The college management had invited guests for the oath ceremony while the girls demanded their parents to be called on stage for the swearing. Udaipur Mayor Chandra Singh Kothari who was the chief guest had left the program after feeling offended. “ Our parents are the most important persons in our life and we don’t find it wrong to demand that we take the oath before them rather any outsiders” Dimple Bhavsar, president, MG college students union said.
The office bearers boycotted the ceremony and have not inaugurated the students union office sticking to their demand. Irked by the adamancy, the prinicipal got the office locked on Thursday and kept the keys in his custody which lead to the protest by the girls in the afternoon. Students also claimed that there have been instances at Rajasthan University too when the office bearers were sworn in by their parents. The students said they would continue the protest and even boycott classes if the authorities do not adhere to their demand.
